BIOGRAPHY

I am a ceramic artist and I work out of my studio at the base of Mt Dandenong- Melbourne , Victoria- Australia. My training in Ceramics began in 1980 when I majored in Ceramics at Prahran College- Diploma of Art & Design.
I then went on to work for Jan Lewis at Table Top Ceramics as a studio assistant. Throughout my thirty year career I have taught ceramics and mosaics to adults and children in a range of community settings. I have participated in several successful group and individual exhibitions.
My work is predominantly wheel thrown , functional ware. I generally work in mid fire and porcelain. It is highly decorative and whimsical in design. The bird series 'motif ' has evolved over many years and changes slightly with each new body of work. I cannot resist entirely covering the surface of my work with sgrafitto and underglaze brushwork.
I admire traditional artisans from the past and aim to create beautiful, decorative pieces. I am inspired by intricate details of design found in ancient textiles and the fine line work of early printmakers. My pieces reflect these influences with free flowing lines in distinctive contemporary designs.
